It's wonderfully crafted and sturdy; however, it's maybe not a chess set for young kids. It has smallish pieces and may not be as safe as a kids' set. I am very happy with this purchase. Rating: - Pretty Cheesy for the price If this set was priced at $24.00, I would have no complaint. But at almost $60 including shipping, it simply is bad value and will be returned. The designs you see in the photos are affixed with a wood burner (wild, haven't seen one of those since I was a kid!). The hinges and latches won't last long. He's heavy handed and a little careless at times, so I was worried about the set holding up. So far so good. The colors are beautiful and pieces appear hand carved and finished. This set is great for travel because it does fold in half. It's a little on the large side, but the detailing on it is fabulous! It's a beautiful set!
